About me
Hi, I am Finnian.
I build things that sound right.
I am a young software developer from Austria. I write code, and I care about how something moves and looks at least as much as about how it works. SoundManager is what happens when those three interests share a desk.
What I do
Three crafts, one habit: finishing things.
- 01
Software
I like tools that do one job properly and then get out of the way. SoundManager is the one I open most.
- 02
Motion design
Movement should explain something: where a thing came from, what just changed, what to look at next. If it only decorates, it goes.
- 03
Graphic design
Type, colour and spacing do most of the talking before a single feature is read. I care about that first impression.
Why SoundManager exists
It started as a tool for my own desk.
A game on the headphones, music on the speakers, a call that should be louder than both. Windows can do all of that, spread over several settings pages, and it forgets half of it the next day.
So I built a patchbay: apps on one side, outputs on the other, cables in between. Then an equalizer for each app, because a voice and a bass line do not want the same sound. Then profiles, because I was setting the same things up every evening.
It is free because I would have built it anyway. If it saves you the trip into the volume mixer, it has done its job.
How I work
A few rules I keep.
Colour has a job.
In the app, green means quiet, yellow means loud and red means too loud. Nothing else gets a colour, apart from the lime of the logo.
Calm beats clever.
No dashboards full of widgets. Things move smoothly, say what they do and then stay still.
Nothing you did not ask for.
No account, no ads, no telemetry, no driver. The app leaves your system the way it found it.
Details are the product.
The pill that shows a profile switch stays for two seconds because one felt rushed and three felt needy.

Tell me what you were doing, what you expected and what happened instead. Feature wishes are welcome too. I read everything myself.
